Who We Are
We are a group of Davis citizens who believe that the Wildhorse Ranch Project makes no sense at this time.
Greg Sokolov MD, No on P Co-Coordinator, is a nine year Davis resident. He is currently employed as an Associate Clinical Professor at the UC Davis Health System. He lives in Wildhorse with his family, and enjoys walking and biking on the trails, greenbelts, and around the open spaces in the area. He opposed Covell Village (Measure X) and has opposed this project because he considers myself a true “slow-growth” advocate, and find this project is currently unnecessary for Davis housing needs.
Philip King, Ph.D., No on P Co-Coordinator, is a thirteen year Davis resident, who has lived in West Davis and Wildhorse. He is an Associate Professor and former Chair of the Economics Dept at San Francisco State. He is also Vice Chair of the Wildhorse East Neighborhood Association. He has worked on fiscal analysis for the State of California and has given expert testimony against big box stores (in particular Wal-Mart) across the state. He lives with his wife and son. Like Greg, he is a slow growth advocate who opposed Covell.
Mark Siegler, Ph.D., is Professor and Chair of the Department of Economics at Sacramento State and he received his Ph.D. in Economics from UC Davis. He was Chair of the City of Davis Finance and Budget Commission, a member of the Business and Economic Development Commission, and Vice Chair of the fifteen member Housing Element Steering Committee, which analyzed future residential development in Davis and ranked Wildhorse Ranch 27 of 36. He lives in Mace Ranch with his wife and two children.
Sue Greenwald is a City Councilmember and former Mayor of the City of Davis. Sue has served on the League of California Cities Revenue and Taxation Policy Committee and Environmental Quality Policy Committee. Sue lives in one of Davis’ old neighborhoods near campus with her husband, Mike Syvanen, who is a professor of Medical Microbiology at UC Davis. Sue holds a B.A. and an M.A. from UC Berkeley, and has worked as a social science researcher. In her spare time, Sue enjoys walking, bird-watching, reading and an occasional game of Scrabble.
Nora Oldwin, attorney and Spanish tutor, has lived in Davis for 20 years with her husband, during which time she has been an active community participant. She is currently chair of the Slide Hill Park Neighborhood Association, and a member of the Davis Food Coop Membership Linkage Task Force. Past services include the Davis Cooperative Community Fund Board of Trustees, and Birch Lane PTA President. She is the mother of two sons, one of whom lives in Vacaville with his wife and two children, as he is unable to afford a home in Davis.
Robert Hagedorn has lived in Davis for ten years. He is Assistant Chief Counsel for the California Department of Insurance, a former chair of the Davis City Planning Commission and was the Executive Director of an environmental nonprofit – the Earth Island Law Center. He is married with 3 kids, including an infant.
Michelle Rasmussen has been a resident of Davis for over 40 years. She went through the school system in Davis and graduated from UC Davis with a BS in Biological Sciences, and then obtained her BS in Nursing from CSUS. She works as a Registered Nurse within our Community. Her husband is a 35 year resident of Davis and they have a 12 year old. She lives in the Manor Park area of Davis.
Fraser Shilling, Ph.D., is a former Davis Open Space Commissioner and long-time resident of both East and West Davis. He is an active and published UC Davis researcher, investigating ways that society can be truly sustainable. For Dr. Shilling, this means both reducing our impact from current economic and other activities and restoring damage from past bad decisions. As a parent of three young children and one older child, he is optimistic that we can intentionally leave the world in better shape than we found it– a responsibility of all parents.
Pam Gunnell, PhD., is a science teacher and former chair of the City of Davis Planning Commission. She also served on the City of Davis Major Projects Financing Commission and the Housing Element Steering Committee. She received her Ph.D. from UC Davis in Plant Pathology.
